A need-based scholarship program, the Van Guarantee is designed to cover the costs of tuition, student fees, and textbooks for eligible students whose financial needs are unmet by federal financial aid and other means of support.

The Van Guarantee program is funded by a 1.6 million dollar bequest to Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) from the estate of Wilbert A. Edwards. The gift was announced in 2015 and is the second largest in the history of the college.

Unique to the North Carolina Community College System, the Van Guarantee program applies to all students, regardless of age, in Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties. Eligibility requirements include residency and students must enroll in at least nine credit hours per semester in any VGCC curriculum program. The Van Guarantee begins in fall 2016 semester, and all residents of the four counties served by the College may benefit if they meet the eligibility criteria. Once enrolled in the Van Guarantee program, students must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) to continue receiving the scholarship.
