The Rio Hondo College Promise is a comprehensive student support initiative that includes free tuition for the first year and priority registration for 2017 graduates of all Whittier Union, El Monte Union and El Rancho Unified high schools and private schools in the college service area. Recent graduates of area high schools will receive academic counseling and support with university transfers. The roots of the Rio Hondo College Promise stretch to 2011, when the College created its El Monte Pledge – which helped students from El Monte and South El Monte pursue higher education goals and led to the creation of the El Monte Promise Foundation.
