CPC Statement on Events in Charlottesville, Virginia

August 16, 2017

The College Promise Campaign is dedicated to increasing opportunity for all through quality education at every level of society. Our staff is deeply saddened by the violence, bigotry, and racism expressed in Charlottesville, Virginia and in the aftermath. Human rights to free speech and peaceful assembly are hallmarks of the American way, but our nation has no place for hate speech and acts of harm. Inciting and enabling harm is antithetical to America’s values, ideals, and prosperity. We must speak out against injustice whenever and wherever it looms. Ensuring the civil rights of every American must lead our actions in all that we do. We must walk together in peace and educate everyone we possibly can. In doing so, we will add our contributions to those billions of families, friends, and colleagues who aspire to a world of peace, respect, justice, diversity, and inclusion in our lifetime and for future generations. The promise of the American Dream will remain our guiding star.
