Providence Promise As A Key Strategy For College Affordability

Providence Promise, one of our nations over 440 Promise Programs, has been published in Forbes regarding their role in rectifying the college affordability crisis. Specifically, the article discusses Providence's work as a Promise Program that primarily serves low- and moderate-income families in Providence, Rhode Island. Providence Promise combines Child Savings Accounts with their Promise Program funds and also provides families with family wrap-around services, sophisticated student supports, and incentives for participation. You can read the Forbes Piece here.

The authors, Madalyn Ciampi and Rachel Palumbo, make a strong case for Promise Programs as a critical component of the college affordability picture: “As municipal, state, and federal offices consider their responsibility in making higher education more affordable, it is necessary that PVD Promise and similar CSA programs be embraced as key strategies of the solution to solving the college affordability crisis. Only when postsecondary is accessible to all students can education truly serve as a vehicle for upward mobility and lifetime prosperity for underserved communities.”
